Causes
· Shortening of muscles of the calf · Gout · Deformities of the foot · Inflammatory/rheumatoid diseases · Ill-fitting footwear (jogger !) · Overuse
Therapy
· Heel wedge to relieve strain of the Achilles tendon · Temporary reduction of sport activities · Stretching of muscles of calf and thigh, eccentric training, massage · Local cold packs and anti-inflammatory applications · Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs · Rarely surgery is indicated
